Findings from peer-reviewed studies have corrected some old misunderstandings, paved the way for new treatment protocols, and have created new tactics, which are all to improve patient outcomes. Research has also allowed nurses to respond to changes in the healthcare environment, patient populations, and government regulations. Nurses utilizing research studies have been able to determine effective best practices and improve patient care and outcomes.
Evidence-based practices that nursing leaders use requires using research outcomes to assist in clinical decisions and care. Peer-reviewed data published and accepted by the nursing profession provides guidance and establishes best practices in the nursing arena. Reviewing where the evidence leads is of vital importance to evidence-based practices. However, to be able to translate research into practice, nurse leaders should assess the design of the research, its applicability and the strength of the research for translation to be able to determine the relevancy and soundness of the research (Curtis et al., 2016). Nurse leaders can also encourage efficiency and effectiveness by supporting their staff members use in research through the utilization of technology to prevent medical errors and keep the nursing staff up-to-date in regards to clinical knowledge.
Evidence-based nursing practices are about finding evidence and using that evidence to make clinical decisions. Levels of evidence, sometimes called a hierarchy of evidence, are assigned to studies based on their design’s procedural quality, which makes them valid, and how to apply them to patient care best. However, there are experts that do agree that the higher up the hierarchy the study design is positioned, the more rigorous the method is, and the more likely it is that the study design can minimize the effect of bias on the study results. Nursing leaders are always encouraged to find the highest level of evidence to answer clinical questions. These decisions will verify how strong the recommendations would be to utilize them. As describe by Dunham-Taylor & Pinczuk 2015, there is a lot of intricacies in retrieving best evidence; however, nursing leaders should obtain the basic evidence-finding skills and be their own information master or their own data analyst (pg. 235).

Each generation of nurses are unique and come with a host of experience and knowledge that can add value to great patient care experience however difficulties arise related to meeting each at individual levels to bring about cohesive and positive patient care satisfaction while continuing to develop and educate our young nurses leaders of today. The development of future leaders is a vital obligation for current nurse leaders. Yet despite recognition of the need to do succession planning, the absence of an adequate leadership pipeline has been cited as the key challenges in nursing today. Globally awareness has widely recognized that the delivery of competent clinical care has been deliver through the best evidenced based practice available. Experts have come to appreciate that the evidenced collected through scholar research has successfully improved the health care delivery system. Particularly nurses are called to function within their full capacity of clinician, with that said nurse-led research is being rapidly recognized as a crucial conduit to practical and efficient way of improving patient outcome (Curtis, 2017). Nurse leaders may utilize and translate research into practice to improve delivery of patient care by reducing hospital errors thereby saving their healthcare institutions millions in dollars annually.
The evidenced-based scale would be one of high caliber is what I would utilize prior to implementing changes within my health care organization. Upon implementing changes within my organization, I would utilize translation research as a guide in assisting me to select the best evidenced-based practice (Titler, 2018). This translate research would help me in selecting best evidenced-based data available that would help me prepare young nurse leaders on how to avoid influence of bad practice and to always stand up for what’s morally and ethically appropriate particularly. Today’s healthcare and world climate would be a perfect learning example of how remain morally and ethically resilient within a global pandemic.
