John Maxwell once said, “Leaders become great not because of theirpower but their ability to empower others”. I can’t agree more with it.The numerous leadership theories help us understand how an individualbecomes a leader. These theories outline the traits and behaviors thatone can adopt and better themselves. The three most important leadershiptheories which I felt were extremely relevant are below.

1. Relationship Theory: The relationship theorymainly focuses on the interactions of the leaders with their respectiveteams. As a team leader, at my organization, I have a team of almost 10people reporting to me. It is my responsibility to foster a positivework environment to have better results. Especially with the freshersand interns who have minimal experience, I would be very patient andhelp them to help themselves. I always encourage them to learn new stuffand be at the top of their game. This way, my team will talk to meabout the difficulties they are facing without any fear and I canunderstand them better and assign the work accordingly.

2.Power Theory: The power theory mainly focuseson how a leader utilizes his power productively. That is, how can aleader gets things done by exercising his power. This theory hasdifferent perspectives but I chose to look at the positive approach.During the last December, my team had a deadline on a project. But myentire team was stuck up on an issue that can be cleared by the supportteam which will function based on the first in/first out ticketingsystem. During that pressurized scenario, I used my connections with thesupport team and made them prioritize my team’s issue first. So,eventually, we did finish the project on time.

3.Contingency Theory: The contingency theory isbased on the fact that no one leadership style is suited for differentsituations. I strongly believe in this. Even the members of the samefamily think differently. So, it is almost impossible to havelike-minded people in a team. The most important quality of a leader isadaptability. In my team, different people will have differentapproaches to a task. In order to achieve the best result in the giventime, I had to deal with them accordingly. The same methodology will notwork with everyone.

1.Strengths-Based Leadership: Itmeans identifying our own strengths and also the specific strengths ofother individuals to achieve goals. I will support and encourage theteam members with their unique strengths. So that it will increase theteam performance. I will give appraisals to each and every individual inthe team like how good they are working in the team.

2.Transformational Leadership:It means where a leader raise the followers with motivation andmorality. I will inspire the team to achieve the expectations andrewards. I will take the concerns from the individual. I will motivateand encourage them to reach the expectations.

3.Leader-Member Exchange Theory:It means that in any organization it contains In-group and out-grouppeople. The In-group people will work well with the leaders, they alsofrequently willing to take additional assignments and duties, will have agood identity that fits with the leaders. The Out-group people willshow less interest in taking up the additional assignments and duties.They are less suited with the leader and less identity. I will make anote of out-group people and analyze why these people are less motive intaking the tasks at work, why they are not good at work. Actually Iwill examine the work what they have done and compare the realities withmy perceptions and I will check whether they match or not. I will doone-on-one meetings with each and every individual in this group andwill find out if they are happy with job or facing any difficulties. Iwill motivate and reestablish a good relationship with them.
