Question Description

I need you to reply on these two discussion:

include bible verse and reference

1- What is Ethics?

In one of the most seemingly simple definitions, ethics “deals with what is right and wrong morally” (Geisler, 1). Ethics is, however, a very complex topic with a wide variety of different viewpoints. We begin to see this complexity when we break down the definition given above. What defines right? Wrong? What does “morally” mean? Is there a difference between the moral right and other kinds of right (say a “legal” right)? And these questions do not even begin to crack the problem of determining how we ought to put these principles into practice. But for the sake of brevity, I’ll just look at the first question “what is right?” Not surprisingly, we find the Bible gives us a very clear answer to this question while many other great schools of thought (utilitarianism, stoicism, Buddhism to name a few) falter due to their reliance on man’s nature to work. Psalm 33:4 (NKJV) states “For the Word of God is right, And all His work is done in truth.” The Word of God has 2 main interpretations: 1) the Word is Jesus (John 1:1, 14, Rev 19:13) and 2) the Word is Scripture (2 Tim 3:15-16, 2 Pet 1:20). For the purposes of determining what “right” looks like, both interpretations lead us to love and obedience. We are told to love the Lord and to love others by Jesus (Matt 22:37-40) and it’s love that drives us to be obedient (Rom 6:17, Gal 2:21).

2- what is ethics?

Ethics is typically defined as the study of moral values.1 These are expectations about beliefs and behaviors that we judge ourselves and others by; they provide the framework for guiding us toward what we ought to do.1 Morals, specifically moral values, emanate from our inner convictions; they provide the substrate that our conscience uses to distinguish right from wrong.1 When we talk about ethics as the study of moral values, we are describing the critical consideration and clarification of such values, integrating and prioritizing them as needed so we can make a decision we consider to be “right.”1 In common use, morality often implies conformity with a behavioral code that is generally accepted in some defined setting or culture.1 That is, even if unbelievers do not have the moral law in their minds, they still have it written on their hearts.2 Christian ethics is a form of the divine-command position. An ethical duty is something we ought to do.2 It is divine prescription.2 Since God’s moral character does not change (Mal. 3:6; James 1:17), it follows that moral obligations flowing from his nature are absolute.2 That is, they are always binding everywhere on everyone.2 And whatever is traceable to God’s unchanging moral character is a moral absolute.2

“In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge” 2 Peter 1:5 NLT
