Question Description

1- Respond to the scenario below with your thoughts, ideas, and comments. Be substantive and clear, and use research to reinforce your ideas.

Now that you have gained an understanding of Red Carpet, Leroy has asked you to join in on a preliminary meeting with the VP of HR and other members of the organization to discuss change. The meeting is important because many employees are unsure of their role in the change process. In fact, the VP of HR has not settled yet on what type of change is needed or how to start the change process. Leroy has asked you to participate in the discussion to help clarify information needed about the change process.

Review the Red Carpet scenario for this course, and with your classmates, discuss the following questions that will provide insight into the change process:

  • In your opinion, what does Red Carpet need to change? Should the change be transformational, developmental, or transitional, and why?
  • What employees or employee groups should be included in the change process, and why?
  • What do you recommend Red Carpet do to begin the change process?

2- Responses to Other Students: Respond to at least 2 of your fellow classmates with at least a 100-word reply about his or her Primary Task Response regarding items you found to be compelling and enlightening. To help you with your discussion, please consider the following questions:

  • What did you learn from your classmate’s posting?
  • What additional questions do you have after reading the posting?
  • What clarification do you need regarding the posting?
  • What differences or similarities do you see between your posting and other classmates’ postings?

In your opinion, what does Red Carpet need to change? Should the change be transformational, developmental, or transitional, and why?

With each acquisition the company grows in a new direction. So, to maintain the company’s integrity or brand the change should come in a mix version of developmental and transformational methods. As a refresher the developmental allows us to find what works for us without committing to a policy, while the transformational is a change of all existing policies and structure. With the combination Red Carpet will be able to allow the purchased company to function and produce profits while implementing their own changes to structure and policy, blending the company into Red Carpets image. Slow changes will allow current employees to get comfortable with Red Carpets decision making while also allowing the human resources folks time to screen new candidates for newly structured positions.

What employees or employee groups should be included in the change process, and why?

Groups to be included in the meeting shall be heads of departments, this allows all stake holders to voice their concerns. Each department or group leader is subject matter expert in JUST that area, a shipping manager cannot and should not speak about raw materials or production areas. The “buy in” needed by the supervisors and managers will come with less resistance if they feel their ideas or concerns were heard, addressed and possibly used to produce the final employee policies they must enforce.

What do you recommend Red Carpet do to begin the change process?

Red Carpet to begin this process should meet with the managers and supervisors to schedule a visit and walk through. This would allow them to see firsthand how each current policy is being applied in the work force and more importantly how the employee’s feel about them. The nonverbal expressions say more than the words we say.

Business organizations today thrive off their reputation and employee relations and processes, businesses experience change all the time. Knowing what to do during that change is crucial, things like technology and a constant changing business environment are examples of things to focus on to adjust and stay ahead of the competition. The growth in size of a business forces a business to have to make changes to integrate operations expansion. Red Carpet is purchasing a movie theater, which means the company is expanding its employee growth to keep up with the competition. Because Red Carpet needs to incorporate a new culture that connects it customers with movie theaters, the company would need a transformation change, “a transformation change includes a business making a drastic change in its business model, often requiring changes in company structure, culture and management” (Magloff, 2020). Transformation change involves a business to change from its prior culture and implement a different operations plan in the movie theater business. Changes to implement more of a formal culture, and more policies and procedures to guide employee performance should be put in place. A major emphasis on HR training being more of a factor in setting up and conducting company training instead of outsourcing to outside groups. Operations that improve management productivity in the company like improving interaction to avoid employee uncertainty and excessive anxiety. Good communication reduces tension between workers, particularly employees and management.

Managers within the Red-Carpet company, and Red Carpet general workers should be involved in executing the change in the company. This will significantly expedite the execution of the change in the company and improve the performance of the theater. The internal managers have the task of overseeing the procedures in the business therefore including them in making the changes that helps decrease resistance as well as expedite the execution of the change in the firm. Communicating all changes in that are to occur in firm is especially important because it helps to decrease resistance from employees.

To begin changes within Red Carpet, executives and managers should start with communicating the planned changes to all the shareholders, investors, and employees of the company. This allows employees to define new roles they may assume at Red Carpet, which prepares them mentally to embrace the changes within the company. Red Carpet will also have to supply operating equipment and resources that are to be utilized after the changes have been executed in the company.
