.In today’s lecture professor Reynolds asked why isn’t “single” a category. I believe its not a category because its not a lable people can apply in terms of description and single isn’t used always as a noun.

.I think that the question of the defense attorney is a label. They are labeling the club as a place to go to “have sex”. We can undercut this by making the assumption about the singles club is not only a sexual reference but a place where people would meet to meet others for the purpose of conversation.

.In today’s lecture, the professor talked about how while the n-word and homophobic slurs have been accepted as revolutionary categories, there is by no means a consensus and some people still hate to hear them (Reynolds, 2020). The reading touches on this concept too. My question is are there any revolutionary categories that have been universally accepted and acknowledged for their new meaning?

.I have learned more about myself and being aware with whiteness, gender, identity, etc. I think it is important when going into a conversation being aware of who your audience is and how to present yourself is really important. I learned a lot about adjacency pairs also and being able to match the FPP and SPP..

.One thing I really liked to see about this course was the inclusion of the segments about Whiteness and Microaggressions. Going to school in a place where diversity isn’t very prevalent, like here in NH, it is important to learn about the everyday privileges that white people have. I was very happy that Professor Reynolds included this into our curriculum.

.After finishing this course, I realized the importance of face. In real life, sometimes when we are talking, we often don’t notice our tone of voice and offend others. The language is different, but the way of speaking is the same, no matter in Chinese or English. I am very glad that I have learned the skills of speaking in this course.
