Final Project Part 2

Your Final Project will consist of three parts that will aid you in completing a research paper and creating an educational brochure that integrates what you have learned about genetic predisposition and how to make the public more aware of the issue you have chosen.

In this second part of the Final Project, you will:

1. Provide a 1500 word minimum written research essay based on the genetic predisposition of a disease state and the biochemical processes that occur in both the normal and diseased states.
2. Provide three credible references to support your topic of choice.

Written Report:

Your second task in Part 2 will be to construct a written informative essay. You have chosen a specific condition or disease with a genetic predisposition. In the essay explain the biochemical process that is influenced in addition to describing the genetic patterns of inheritance. By the end of Unit 7, you will need to complete your essay that incorporates the knowledge you have learned in this class and additional research conducted. The essay must include the following:

• Explanation of the genetic consequences of the observed trait or conditions. Compare and contrast the normal and disease states of the condition and the genetic differences.
• Description of how the condition is inherited and the population genetics related to the condition. Explain the relationship between genetic information transfer and the structure of nucleic acids.
• Include a biochemistry review that focuses on the medically applicable concepts and techniques that form the underpinnings of the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of medical conditions.
• Define any genetic testing currently available.

Helpful Writing Tips:

Informative essays do not express the writer’s opinion. Views, pro and con, can be included, but they must be presented in an unbiased fashion, pointing out comparisons and contrasts of viewpoints. One way to do this is to imagine that the audience holds a common view of the topic; the writer’s purpose is to give the audience a surprising new view based on research.

Research Tips:

When conducting research for this, use scholarly sources. Avoid Wikipedia or other pseudoscience, non-peer reviewed papers.

Use the Library as your primary source. There are some amazing peer reviewed journals available. Be sure to take full advantage of the many databases available to you such as EBSCO Host, Academic Search Premier, and CQ Researcher. Use the advanced search feature to narrow your choices.

Basic Writing Expectations:

• Your essay should be a minimum of 1500 words in length, not counting the title or reference pages).
• Include a separate title page and reference page.
• Double space, font size 10 to 12 pt.
• Include a highly developed viewpoint/thesis, purpose, and exceptional content.
• Demonstrate superior organization: use logic.
• Make certain that your paper is free of grammatical and spelling errors.
• Avoid plagiarism.
• Less than 10% of your paper should be quoted material.
• Use APA style for all in-text citations and references.
• Always include an introduction and conclusion.

Submitting your Assignment

Put your Final Project Part 2 in a Microsoft Word document. Save your assignment on your computer using the proper naming convention: last name/first name-SC335-section-UnitX-Report (section is your course section, X is your Unit number). When you are ready to submit your Assignment, select the Unit 7 Assignment Dropbox then attach your file. Make sure to save a copy of the Assignment you submit.

To view your graded work, come back to the Dropbox or go to the Gradebook after your instructor has evaluated it.
