Question Description

The biggest issue at my organization for practicing and addressing a solution to evidencing-based nursing practice is education and knowledge/expertise, this along with time. Time and education go hand in hand, because the time constriction leads to not being able to educate staff and nurses. Usually, when there is a new or more innovative method to practicing, the floor nurses and staff usually get some type of hand out or even a small in-service type of presentation. This does not give thorough information on evidence based nursing and new evolving protocols, procedure and treatment options. Therefore, the nurses are left questioning whether this new method is safe and effective or if they should stay within their comfort zone and practice what has been done for years or practicing what they know. Education is so important in nursing because the nursing field is forever changing and there is always something to learn. Time is very important because in order to bring evidence based practicing to nursing, one must go through the process and that process takes time; to ensure information is collected, processed and research data/findings are implemented, as well as evaluation of the results to ensure they provide meaningful and positive outcomes for patients.
